"20 million" smiles!!!

Happy ending theme is a must for Danny Boyle; that too the way it culminated in 'Trainspotting', its hard to forget. I can still picture all the hostelites who watched that movie glued to the thought 'Look at the memories this would bring after 20 years'. And now it was "Slumdog Millionaire", me and CSN(The Cake Curse hits SR again!!!) desperately waiting for a happy ending. After all that Jamal had been through, its an unwary wish in the hearts of all the SM watchers "Lathika is his girl". First it was the music then it was the worldwide praise(Well a 8. in IMDB and 94% in Rotten Tomatoes and a couple of awards is what counts, and ofcourse my review) for the movie 'Slumdog Millionaire' that made me add it to my Bucket List. 'We will watch it in PVR again', that came out in chorus after the flabbergast ride.

On one thought the entire movie balances on coincidences, but the inricasies of the movie make you hard to question that. That too if you are asking this after watching "Rab ne..", I can only wish "May Rab help you". The Music is.... I think its time we should stop rating Rahaman's music!!! Jai Ho,Liquid Dance, Riots, Oh Saaya, Ringa Ringa all just ROCK. Screenplay is expertly handled and the performances especially Dev Patel's is bound to leave a long impact.

We should actually be hating the movie for it portrays Mumbai as a poverty ridden mess and is happily doing rounds in the international circuit. After watching the recent attacks and a good watch of this movie, its clear that foreigners easily forget Mumbai.

Now the movie: A Journey of Jamal, and his brother and Lathika through various phases of separation, betrayal, brink of death, escape, love and a never ending sequence of challenging situations. Jamal enters the show "WHO WANTS TO BE A MILLIONAIRE" and each question he faces gives him a Deja Vu in real. The theme is how did a slumdog answer all the questions? All his answers have an interesting past and together they complete his life journey.

The movie has a lot to say, in fact at the end you feel, "That's a lot of information to digest in 3 hours"(Connect F.R.I.E.N.D.S). A wonderful movie after Dark Knight", don't afford to miss.

Welcome To Sajjanpur...

Relief!!!!Relief!!!! Relief!!! Relief from movies which depict bungalows so spacious difficult to imagine even in a fairy land, innumerable wooden actors and actresses, baseless designer clothing's which are to be just worn all the time, pathos running into hours, meaningless jokes and pathetic songs combined with the worst choreography even when they are least required (I can only think of SRK's 'dream sequence' excuse here). Nowadays movies don't even have the concept of mother and father as it is no more trendy i guess. Thanks to Sajjanpur which defied all such must be rules of the modern bollywood and brought the village back on the big screen. And kudos to Shyam Benegal who dared such an attempt.

Shreyas talpade's acting is just getting better with each movie. Here too he does an excellent job. Most importantly you connect with his character Mahadev instantly. Amrita Rao looks fantabulous as always, and has carried Kamala's gaon ki gori character gracefully. I particularly liked her when she reasons why she abandoned school The director gives ample screen space for each of his characters and defines them aptly. The plot is simple yet is pervasive filled with loads of hidden social messages. The mousi who cries through her nose, her hot-headed daughter, all the letters, the villian defending his wife, are all humourous. The songs are refreshing paticularly Seetaram and Bheene bheene although you feel some of the others were not necessary.

In all, a good movie. Enjoy :)

Kahin to Hogi wo.....

One of the most beautiful songs I've heard recently. Everything is just perfect in this song. Javed Akhtar Abbas Tyrewala and A R Rehaman have given out a magical score .

Kahin to.. kahin to
Hogi wo,
Duniya jahan tu mere saath hai..

Jahan mein, jahan tu,
Aur jahan, bass tere mere jazbaat hai,
Hogi jahan subah teri,
Palko ki, kirano mein,
Lori jahan chand ki,
Sune teri baahoin mein..

(Jaane naa kahan wo duniya hai,
Jaane naa wo hai bhi ya nahi,
Jahan meri zindagi mujhse,
Itni khafa nahi..) - 2

Saasein kho gayi hai kiski aahon mein,
Mein kho gayi hu jaane kiski baahon mein,
Manzilon se raahein doodhti chali,
Kho gayi hai manzil kahin rahon mein..

Kahin to, kahin to,
Hai nasha..
Teri meri har mulaqaat mein,
Hoton se, hoton ko,
Chumti, o rehte hai hum har baat pe,
Kehti hai fiza jahan,
Teri zamin aasmaan..

Jahan hai tu, meri hassi,
Meri khushi, meri jaan…

(Jaane naa kahan wo duniya hai,
Jaane naa wo hai bhi ya nahi,
Jahan meri zindagi mujhse,
Itni khafa nahi..) - 3

Love story 2008....

Just too cute to handle...Its Genelia again after about 20times of Bommarillu, and i attribute it to providence that i got to watch her on the big screen. I still recall the two, deriding me, for having not watched the movie yet, was seething with anger then. Its peace now. Also Happy Birthday Sudks and thanks ,for giving such a fabulous treat. I am happy that you got the best bday gift, your new found sister(Kumbha ke mela saga again ..) and I pledge to take care of her :).
Although filled with cliche's, yet the movie scores in every aspect. The music has an ethereal touch, since a week, heart is just tuned to it. The ideal parents DCH just got more ideal in this movie,so much as to give a happy ending right at the start of the movie. Aditi can be said slightly more mature than Hasini. I entreat her to remain the same. Man, she's just too chubby!! The scene where in she say's "It was me who drops you home everytime" is too cute. Even her timely expletives are brilliant. Aditi and her brother's moments are the one's that rock, one where they talk about their friends and the other where he shows his room. Missed my sister a lot here!!!.

Loved the picturisation of the song Kahin to hogi...(although Mrs Sa and Mrs Ra hated it, its quite obvious, isn't it...). Rotlu's pepsi aka beer scene, his tu hi ree song sequence, conversation between Nasiruddin shah and his wife are also quite ludicrous. The best was "paanch saal kaise chale gaye pata hi nahi chala..Phone pe beta phone pee".

Whats this? A must say germinal notion!!! The concept is good, although the reasoning she gives at the end was anticipated. Life gives enough unsolvable problems, when dreams seems better than trying to capture the unobtainable (Totally left to perspective). Also still keeping my fingers crossed, about an impromptu trip at 3 A.M (DCH istyle mein) or a in a open truck filled with hay (nazrein milana nazrein churana...actually Bollywood's signature style). Desparately hoping someday will experience them.

As i want to end this here, my mind goes rummaging into the past, to find the Rotlu, Jigneesh, Bombs....And Aditi in my life. Did I meet them? Or did I fail to recognize them? Or are they with me currently, Or was it like the K-soaps, I enter the lift, they just pass out without noticing. Ohh Dreams again!! Lets keep them apart for the night....All together a thorough entertainer.Enjoy....
